The Chapel and the adjoining priory were attached to the benedictine Abbey of Thiron after a donation by Countess Agnes of Montigny in 1115.

In 1212, children led by sheperd Stephen of Cloyes left the Chapel of Yron for a crusade to the holy Land that would end on tragedy.

During the French Révolution, the Chapel was sold and transformedinto a hayloft, but it remained a place of worship to the Virgin Mary. It was reinstated as a chapel in 1898.

The Chapel is notable for the simplicity of its Romanesque architecture and above all above all for the quality of its wall paintings.

The vault of the choir features the painting "Christ in Majesty", which was covered with an identical painting in the 13th century. On the left lateral wall is "the Adoration of the magi" and "The flagellation of Christ"(There are only two potrayals of this latter theme, one of whiwh is the painting on the Chapel of Yron). The right lateral wall shows "The kiss of Judas" ans the wall of the apse features the Apostles in painted arcades.

There is also a particularly fine virgin and chil in polychrome stone dating from the 14th century.
