This ancient church dates from around the year 1000.

le_clochercloyes_RIt was originally designed as a parish church but was soon annexed by the feudal lord, who took it for his own usage.                                                                 In 1114, to make reparation for the injustice committed by his family, Renaud Percehaie, lord of Romainville, made the church public and donated it to the monks of Thiron, who already owned Notre Dame d'Yron.

It was a small building with one modestly-size nave.eglise_ancienne_R

The only part of the early church that still remains today is the choir. Around 1400, it was extended with the addition of the large nave - today known as the Sacred Heart nave -today known as the sacred heart nave -, it was lengthened and the Romanesque nave was raised. The tower was also built at this time. All the work was funded to a large extent by one of the last descendents of the inheritance that she had received from her sister Catherine, lady of Cloyes and Marboué. The last building works, giving the church its current appearance, and more recent.

The sacristy was built in 1836 in the presytery garden, and in 1943 the southern nave, or Holy Virgin nave, and baptismal fonds were added.

Points of interest:

- Above the Holy Virgin altar, a wooden statue of the virgin and child

- In this nave, a stone satue of St James dating from the 12th century

- To The left of the central altar, a wooden Christ dating from the 16th century

The windows are recent, as they were virtually all destroyed during the bombing of 22 june 1944. The two windows near the entrance portray a historical event, the Children's Crusade, which set off from the Chapel of Yron in 1212.
